The Graduate Management Admission Test, better known as the GMAT, is a test of your reasoning and writing skills. It specifically tests quantitative reasoning, integrated reasoning, verbal reasoning and analytical writing. It is the most widely accepted test for graduate level management programs.

What should you know in order to prepare for your GMAT test date? One thing to know is the length of the test. This is a three-and-a-half test of these four areas. With breaks, it is an approximately four hour event.

The four sections each have an allotted amount of time. For the analytical writing assessment, that time is 30 minutes. Thirty minutes is the time allotted for the 12 question integrated reasoning section. You will have 75 minutes for the quantitative reasoning section, which has 37 question. The verbal section also has 75 minutes allotted for it, but it has 41 questions.

The analytical writing assessment poses only one task. You will need to be able to analyze and critique a given argument, and your essay will be assessed on a scale of 1-6. In order to prepare for this section, you should work on sharpening your writing skills.

Integrated reasoning presents data in multiple formats. It will test your ability to interpret and analyze data from multiple sources. Skills to work on for this section include graphics interpretation, table analysis, two-part analysis and multi-source reasoning.

The quantitative section will put your math skills to the test. No calculators are permitted while you work out the arithmetic, algebra and geometry problems in this section. Prior to the test, you should review these areas of mathematics.

The verbal section is devoted to assessing your ability to read and comprehend written materials. You will need to construct and evaluate arguments, and you will also need to be able to formulate and evaluate a plan of action. The section also includes sentence correction questions in which you will need to determine what, if any, mistake is present in a given sentence.
